Do you find content planning very easy, or a bit overwhelming?

It can get a little complicated if you don't have some key things in place - you almost have to work to keep it simple, which I've always found a bit contradictory, but it's true! Will you be putting any of these tips in place?

👫 Understand your audience. Any data you have about your followers and customers is really handy, but don't worry if you don't have a tonne of market research either. Make educated assumptions and review them later.

⚓Anchor every piece of content back to your channel or business goal.

⏳Do not underestimate how much time good content takes to craft! Set aside a chunk of time to work on a week, month or quarter worth of content and certainly take off the pressure to get it all done within an hour. If that was possible, no one would need social media or content managers.

💅That said, let go of the idea of perfectionism too. I struggle so hard with this one, so I set myself boundaries - if I find myself going round in circles I go and make a cup of tea and return to the content with fresh eyes and a goal to completely simplify it. If it isn't working, abandon and move on.

🖊️If your system for brainstorming, planning and tracking your social media content feels too clunky, confusing or if it's not helping you enough, change it up. If you put the time into that system now you'll give yourself an easier time creating content forever!

In general, January is a month where your audience are likely to feel one of two ways: Hopeful, ready for a detox and excited for a new start in 2022, or they may be feeling under pressure to make lots of drastic changes, not to mention pretty strapped for cash following Christmas.

Don't forget to cater to their mindset when you create your January content, especially with the pandemic in our midst. Good talking points might include mental health to get through the never-ending British Winter, goal-setting and looking to the future.

I'm going to preface this post by saying that the

I'm going to preface this post by saying that the fact I - the girl who cried through all her maths GCSE exams, scraped a C and got a D in statistics - am about to take you through some (simple) maths is chuffing hilarious to me. Turns out I'm actually ok at it if you apply it to business. Who knew?

I know getting to grips with financials can be scary, but trust me, you’ll thank yourself later. So take your target number (and tell me in the comments if your big goal for this year is about sales, signups, income, follows… I love hearing about your plans!) and do this:

1. Divide that number by 4. This is the progress you need to make quarterly to reach your target.

2. Divide the yearly number by 12. That's what you need to hit every month to stay on track all year.

3. Divide the yearly number by 52 to get your weekly goal (if you want to go that granular).

4. And if you’ve REALLY got your sales hat on, divide it by 365 for a daily goal… but don’t put too much pressure on yourself to meet daily goals if you find that stressful.

Voila. Easy tracking and a very measurable goal.

If you felt it was too easy, increase that mutha and work out your new targets.

If you now have a feeling of existential dread and can't see the woods for the trees, it is a-ok to rethink the size of your goal. Try taking it down by a third or a quarter and see how you feel - we certainly don't want to start the new year defeated. How does that feel now?

How much have you got on for the last month of the year, exactly? Tell me in the comments 👇

You absolutely CAN make it to New Year with some successes under your belt. But I also want to remind you that although the world has vastly improved since last year, 2021 has still been a lot and you deserve (mate, you NEED) to rest. That might come at the expense of some of the things on your to-do list, but that is ok. Your mental health will benefit. If you can, be proactive - prioritise what absolutely must be completed in December and simplify the rest.

And if you need help, I'm here for you! My DMs are always open, I'll always reply to comments. But please don't use this month to measure your worth by your productivity. You are so much more.

So yes, you CAN do this and you can get some December wins in there. But you also CAN rest and recuperate and be kind to yourself. Neither is wrong, both are possible.
